Call of Duty 2: Big Red One - Quick Review

Well, I finally had a chance to tryout 'Call of Duty 2: Big Red One' ( http://www.callofduty.com/ )! And I have to tell you after playing 'Call of Duty 2' on the PC and 360 (the beta preview) the Xbox is showing it's age.

I've only played the introduction mission so far (hence the 'quick review' tag) but I'm sure going to see this one through to the end. Control wise it's a pretty standard FPS game - if you've played one you'll have no problem here. The controls are nice and smooth, so far I haven't noticed any major issues.

The game opens in France (September 1944) just before the beginning of a major fire fight. And let me tell you there was some pretty intense fighting going on when it broke out. I had to turn down my speakers because I was rocking the pad - the game sounds great! It's not the prettiest game in the Xbox library that's for sure but the action is so heavy, and there is so much going on, that it more then makes up for it.

So far the AI seem decent - your squad acts like you would expect and the Germans do their thing very well. I've seen a couple scripted sequences and they are great. It's all on par with what you'd expect from a top shelf title. The game seems like it's going to be pretty linear, you know, go from Check Point A to Check Point B and then back. But, that's pretty much what I expected.

So, if your looking for a game to fill the void (you know since you didn't preorder your 360 and don't own a PC) till you get to play 'CoD' on 360 then this game is a must for you. Anyway, I'm going back into the trenches...
